choreographed music videos:

Beyonce:

This music is all set to stone and precisely set up and performed to the second, showing that it really does not have any freedom and instead is about the 'big show'. Therefore to me does not really represent music itself, as it has no real heart and instead is a big show stopper to make money. Even though a lot of Beyonce's music is very deep and meaningful it does not really mean much coming from a multi-millionaire who could buy her way anywhere.

Although these videos are very well done and amazingly put together with so many extras and props, they are still huge money makers and have a set audience.

I personally do not like choreographed music videos as they are over produced and there is too much going on, this means that the artist to me does not really connect with both the song and audience. As the lyrics do not portray both the artist and songs lyrics.

The way which the videos are all set all make the main artist being Beyonce the center of attention at any one time, to identify she is most important. The most powerful over men and all others, this then shows she is a individual who doesn't want to be held down by her partner or the music producers.

Most of her music videos are sexual and show her off in some way or another, as she mostly wears skimpy outfits which promote her behind, legs or chest. Therefore making it appeal to both a female and male audience, young and old. This then makes Beyonce out to be a luscious women who is a bit 'flashy' in the way she dresses, and does not represent the average woman.
Also by having the video with such 'graphic' content may then infuriate some viewers e.g. parents and the elderly, then creating an unwanted group of 'haters'.

To conclude for my music video I do not wish to have a any pompous choreographed dancing that does not portray both the artist and the song itself.

The Street: Dry your eyes

The streets: Dry your eyes

I have chosen to look at this video as of the clash between narrative and performance, as throughout the video the actual actor is also the singer making it seem as if the song is about something that has actually happened to him. This then makes the audience feel sympathy for the artist and understanding for what he is going through, as it is a classic life event which many would have gone through.

The music video itself is very slow passed to show what the artist is feeling, his emotions and thoughts. Therefore by doing so makes it quite moving in a way, as of not only it being quite a sad song but also the movements  lyrics and the blue tinge which is set over the entire video (to show he is having a blue day).

Blur: Country House

Blur country House:

This music video is very upbeat and fast passed this then makes the audience feel the same way and want to dance it. Although this is not a conventional music video it still works very well to represent the song, by having both performance based parts and narrative. Leading the viewer through the world of the 'Country man'.

I have chosen to look at this video as I am very much into Blur and similar music of this time period, as it is so different and does follow the strict same old music video routine, therefore standing out as an absolute classic.

The way which the video is so colorful displays what the main character does not have but wants, the money but also a fun fulfilled life, not just a grey one.

Beatles: fool on the hill

The Beatles: Fool on the Hill

This music video represents in many a way the drug fueled era or the 60's, as of the distance stares through the camera and the prancing fool on the hill. The lyrics of this song seem to portray someone who is not understood by others even though he is a wise wise man. Paul McCartney said "the song relates to someone like Maharishi Mahesh Yogi" who was a wise old man, who was not understood by others and thought to be bonkers. This shows that no matter how different and unusual the song may be there might still be a deep meaning to it.

This song was dedicated to John Lennon and brought out along side the Magical mystery tour album, the video was shot in France somewhere outside Nimes. The song itself it very simple yet the tune backs it relaxing and effective.

King Charles: Mississippi Isabel

King Charles;

This music video is very individual and different to many other out there and its concepts are much the same to the sounds of the 1940's. The clothing and make-up makes the video seem like it is back in time therefore giving it a very different feeling, therefore it has quite a niche audience.

The music that is created by King Charles is very jazzy and individual therefore the video fits in very well being quite randomly put together. I like this sort of video as it does not seem to be very rehearsed or organised more as if they had a camera and a sunny location and though 'how could we make this as interesting and different as possible', showing such a random lots of shots and goings on. Although there is a clear narrative and performance based contrasts which both fit very neatly into the overall video.

Nicki Minaj: Anaconda:

Anaconda:

I would not normally analyse a video of such a genre as 'Nicki Minaj' but I thought this was such a good example of how music has been destroyed as any... The amount of product placement in this video is horrendous e.g. Beats audio (1:05), MYX alcohol (1:57), which she is a key promoter of, as can be seen on their official website; http://www.myxfusions.com/input-birthday.php?redirect=/index.php, MateFit (2:49),  MYX again (2:57), Dr.Drake (3:35) to promote his Beats. This shows how this video is not about the music which is hard to call music anyway, but in fact just a way to make a ton of money which our children promote.

This video sexualize's women more than ever with the skimpy outfits showing all there is to possibly so and the lyrics which are mainly just about 'Nicki's' rear:

"Yeah, he love this fat ass
Yeah! This one is for my bitches with a fat ass in the fucking club
I said, "Where my fat ass big bitches in the club?"
Fuck those skinny bitches,
Fuck those skinny bitches in the club
I wanna see all the big fat ass bitches in the motherfucking club, fuck you if you skinny bitches. What? Yeah!

Yeah. I got a big fat ass. Come on!"

The lyrics in this song are vulgar and pretty horrid to be perfectly honest, as if you think of who Nicki Minaj's main audience are, being young teens. This promotes women to youngsters as being sex objects for men to simply use and dismiss, and the fact that they have to have a great big ass and bust. This makes young women never fully satisfied with the body gave them, therefore throughout their lives peer pressure will make them change themselves so much until they do not recognize the person they once were.

And this may seem like a bold statement but it is already happening all over social media with suicidal teens who do not feel accepted as they are obese, or anorexic. Which these sort of songs really are not helping anything.

Cat Empire Brighter than Gold:

Brighter than Gold:

This music video is very unusual and does not really follow many usual music video techniques, this being the case makes it stand out from the crowd. It is very upbeat and fast passed really representing the lyrics and the emotion, as of the mise-en-scene. The Mise is very dark and mysterious therefore making the viewer become intrigued into what the music video is about.

I like the lighting and photography in this video as it makes it stand out and become a lot more 'fun' as music video go, meaning that it is nice to watch it along with the song as it does fit nicely. The overall feel of this video is very dark and strange but with the dancing and jazzy tunes makes it not seem it, instead does the opposite making it feel fun making the viewer want to dance.

The video overall does not co-inside with normal techniques which makes it work so well unlike many other bog standard videos of today. These do not portray the music's heart correctly and are instead produced on a common factory line to make money.
